Halloween

The girls had a great Halloween. On the Friday before Halloween, they had Trunk or Treat at their school. After getting the girls all dressed up, daddy and Nana took the girls to the school. Since Wesley is so small, I stayed home with him. They had a blast - I was so surprised at how late they all came home :)

On Sunday night (Halloween night), we dressed the girls up again and Daddy and Nana took them around the neighborhood trick-or-treating. Wesley and I stayed home and handed out candy. Mid-way thru the neighborhood, they came back home to take a rest. But Mary Catherine and Ella were ready to keep going. They both were just having so much fun. Mary Catherine was even telling people "thank you." It was a lot of fun to watch their excitement!!

Boys are different

So, one of my "concerns" that I so readily shared with friends and family is what I was going to do when Ella would ask me, "Why does brother look different?" or "What is that?" As inquisitive as she is, I just knew that the first time I changed his diaper in front of her, she would start asking questions.

Well, the moment arrived - and it went much different than I ever thought it would.

As I was changing Wesley's diaper, Ella said, "Look mom, he looks like Landon and Preston does. Ya know, boys are different than girls are."

Guess she already knows.

First check-up

We took Wesley to the doctor today for his first check-up since leaving the hospital. Dr. Nichols said that he looked great. He even weighed in at 8 lbs 9.5 oz - which is above his birth weight. I knew that boy was eating a lot!! Since he is already above his birth weight and all is looking good, we don't have to go back until his 2 month check-up!!

To laugh or cry

I tried to prepare myself for the first couple of weeks home with a newborn. It is amazing how soon we forget how hard it is to get up every couple of hours to change diapers and feed the baby. I tell ya, I don't remember changing this many diapers (or at least this many poopies) with the girls!

At any rate, the 5th night at home with Wesley has been the most memorable so far. During the night, we got up so that I could feed him. Mid-way thru the feeding, it was time to change his already really full diaper. Well, although everyone tells you that you need to "cover him up", I guess you don't learn until it really happens to you. So, he peed everywhere, including on me and on my side of the bed. I reacted and got something over him, but he just kept going and kept going. We went thru 3 diapers with pee and poop - it just seemed to be everywhere.

I tried to tell myself to laugh - that it was okay. But, I cried and cried. I was over-tired and it just all culminated into one good tearful feeding. We cleaned up what we could (put the diapers and wipes and lap pads on the floor), Clint got a towel to put down on my side of the bed so I could sleep on it, and we all drifted back off to sleep.

With swollen eyes the next morning, I laughed. Wesley might have given me an unexpected present in the middle of the night, but he sure is cute.

Let's go to the hospital

Ella and I were talking the other day on our way to gymnastics.

Ella: Mom, I think we just need to go on to the hospital

Me: Why?

Ella: Cuz, I am ready to go get baby brother and bring him home!

Bad words

Conversation with Ella the other night...

Ella: Allison said a bad word at school today.

Us: Really, what was it?

(as we patiently waited...scared of what might come out of her mouth...)

Ella: She said....poopy

(we sighed with relief as we were both imagining of what she might say)

Ella: Christian said that was a bad word.

Us: Yeah, we don't say poopy.

After she went to bed, we just talked about the pure and utter innocence of a child. Very humbling. Wish it would always stay that way!

Mary Catherine 15 months

Wow - and she is 15 months old! Just doesn't seem possible. Mary Catherine just has her own little personality and most of the time, it is just adorable. She has a way of wrapping you around her finger, that is for sure.

She still has 8 teeth (4 on top and 4 on bottom), but she has a couple of large ones that are trying to come thru. She is in a full force run and loves to eat just about anything...anything but green things that is. Although she has a healthy appetite, she is definitely more picky than Ella was. I think her favorite is watermelon. She could eat and eat and eat some watermelon. She also isn't afraid to try new things. Loves anything cold.

She is starting to say a few words now too. She can say "daddy." There are times where we think she is saying "Ella" and in her own sweet way, she will say "Thank you."

She does have a temper (and where did that come from?) :) There are times were she is just as easy going as pie, but other times, she will just pick something up and throw it down to make a point. She will lay on he ground and scream and cry for no reason. When she's done, she's done and will get up and go on her merry way.

She loves to hold hands and she can give the sweetest hug around the neck. She has really started getting into books. She will bring a book to you, turn around and back up until she sits in your lap. It's sweet. Definitely a very loving and cuddly child, that's for sure.

Ella and Mary Catherine play very well together - most of the time. It's fun to watch them and listen to them laugh together. Music to my ears, that's for sure!
